Meh, Pokemon... Digimon are far better anyway >.>
At least the video games don't suck.
Nice review, although pointing out how this movie is bad isn't that hard.
  • familyguy fan  - Hey
:) Why not try asking him to do a review of digimon the movie
  • genonam  - i agree
    B) i agree he should review the digimon movie.
  • TakaComics
The problem with Digimon's American movie is that it was 3 Japanese movies
mushed up into one. It was ok, but it really didn't do the original series
    justice. :-\
  • texasguy09
No..this was actually "popular" back in the 90's....even VH-1 Mentioned
it in one of their specials...I think "I love the 90's" or something.
Digimon just seemed kind of another carbon copy of pokemon...I guess no one
noticed since this was taking all the attention.
  • danbren244
agreed, the first season was the best in the franchise I loved it, but i just
looked back on the second season and realised how bad that was, now THAT didn't
    do the series justice.
  • texasguy09  - mmmm....
Well this is more nostalgic, and this was as popular as Mighty Morphin Power
Rangers. The 90's were pretty ugly looking back now.
  • chardmelon
me too! he so should review the digimon movie! P.s. yay i found some digimon
    love at last! :cheer:

    true

this movie made me cry tears of unfathonable sadness
  • ThatFellowInTheCoat
I watched Pokemon: The First Movie a couple of days ago, because of this review.
And how incredibly accurate you were (like you always are). You pretty much
nailed it, especially that hypocritical ending. I'm thankful I wasn't into
Pokemon when I was younger and I actually was in the target demographic at the height of its popularity.
  • ToaK
I was too, and sadly, I still like it.
  • Daffy
I used to like Pokemon when I was a kid. (I was 10. I didn't know better.) But
when I rewatched Pokemon: The First Movie the other day, I realized that all the
things were said, every single thing, was right. The kids have no personality at
all. It really got boring after a while. Not to mention how confusing it was. I
don't remember the show at all. But all in all, I was disappointed that all my
childhood memories were wrong. Now, I'm thinking that EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A
LIE!!! Were all the shows I watched when I was a kid this bad? I hope not.
Anyway, nice video, man. This was the first Nostalgia Critic video I ever saw,
and it will always be my favorite. Keep on keepin' on, NC.
  • alt400
i once owned pokemon the movie and the movie 2000 on video and the third one on
DVD back in 2003 plus i saw nearly every episode on tv, now you tell me that
    isn't right
  • Tizoc
    Very, very funny.

And yes it is full of cliches and It's really dumb, but they had to make it just
as dumb as the show, they had to respect the (horrible) original idea.

    Good job, maistro.
  • Curiosity Inc
Thanks for making the sacrifice to review this, Critic. You remember it so we
don't have to, and I'm pretty sure a lot of us would rather not remember this.

It's very cathartic to see you deconstruct and mock such a formerly-cherished
part of my childhood. Thanks a lot.
  • ThatFellowInTheCoat
"Were all the shows I watched when I was a kid this bad?"

Well, Animaniacs stills holds up incredibly well as proven by the Naughtiest
Moments video. So do Tiny Toons and Darkwing Duck, in my opinion.
  • Horribafuckus125
I never got into Pokemon. My brother still has a book of cards somewhere in my
attick. hey when the year 2020 hits i' ll get rich with these things ;D
  • Krustoff
My friends found out that I hadn't seen this last year when we were hanging out.
So they dragged out a VCR and put it in. I thought I was going to be blown
away, but I was just bored throughout the whole thing. I was the only non nerd
in the room and picked up on the Minnesota Vikings joke and I left the room. So
    retarded.
  • Daffy
"Well, Animaniacs stills holds up incredibly well as proven by the
Naughtiest Moments video. So do Tiny Toons and Darkwing Duck, in my
    opinion."

Hmmm. I agree. I even have every episode of Darkwing Duck on DVD, and I have
Animaniacs Vol. 1, and I'm planning to get Tiny Toons once it comes out. So,
    yeah.
  • tbussard
Brilliant work on Pokemon, NC. That was some much needed justice to what was
actually a horrible film that left my interest in Pokemon in tatters.

However, I have to respond to your comment about Mew. I think that his flippant
and childishly playful behavior was actually intended to showcase him as the
"Prankster" character, akin to many legends of the past. However,
Mewtwo's assault prompted a character transformation, as if to say, "Well,
he's cute and isn't as dark and demented as his clone, but can still kick plenty
    of ass!"

Also...I never realized just how cruel that "bringing your friends back from
    the dead" concept was. Jesus...

Oh, and one more thing, and I'll shut up: Why is it that Japanese children's
shows have to have EVERY character in the shot say something, no matter how
pointless it is to the overall dialog? Is it that hard to have just one
    character stare in complete shock?
  • Dekkard
I can't believe I actually used to watch pokemon as a child ( and enjoyed
    watching it)
this and other over rated shows like dragon ball z, naruto, etc. really give
    anime a bad name

"pokemon, sounds like something a Jamaican shouts out when he wants to play
cards, eh would you like to play some poke'mon?"
    subtitle: apologies to jamaicans everywhere

    lmao
  • ASP84
Great review! I HATED Pokemon tv show and movies (though I must admit to getting
    sucked into the video games).
PS Tinkerbell coming back to life by people clapping?
  • DeanoTheLegend
There's a Movie similar to this which is just as bad that i'd love NC rip the
    shit out of.

    Beyblade the Movie :o
  • BJB
You'v just reminded me that the only thing good about the pokemon movie were the
    opening logos.
  • Mattato
The Jamaican part made my mother laugh.

Good review, though you probably should have cut out the Lion King analogy.
Should have just ended that point at "Suck my balls."
  • pinkechidna
I loves me some Pokemon! Which actually made me enjoy this review even more!
    I'm funny like that... >w
  • Bionic-Sun
I remember seeing this with my father when it first came out (mainly to get
those limited trading cards; you'll do almostanything for trading cards as a kid) and he fell asleep during the film. I
coudln't see why at the time, but now I get it.
  • calger459
I LOVE this review, I would end up watching this damn show every morning at 6am
when I was a teacher. Nothing like killing brain cells before teaching art to
    little kids!

I showed this to my friend and her two young sons, both Pokemon fans (of course)
came running over and they thought it was hysterical, especially where you mock
the big fight at the end. Though I don't think they found it funny for the same
    reasons we did...

  • kayla
oh god i remeber begging my dad to let me watch this movie..i'm ashamed to have
ever been a fan...great review though!
  • Nostalgiaoholic87652
"I didn't know that Vikings still exsisted...They mostly live in
    Minnesota."
Um...Yeah if Ash was talking about the football team. But what would he know all
he does is catch Pokemon I don't think he has any idea about other sports. Oh
    well
  • Lan Moore
You should review the USA version of Digimon the movie, the movie that was
originally 3 moves but they got turned to one by Fox.
  • Misfit Slacker
I was about 15 when Pokemon came out. I actually did try to make an effort to
check it out, but it never maintained my interest. One thing that puzzles me,
though... What was the point of resurrecting Ash if the timeline was going to be
reset anyway? Wouldn't Ash's death actually been a sort of justification to
resetting the timeline if it meant preventing his death? It still would have
been lame, but just saying. I preferred Care Bears 2's variation on the
Tinkerbell resurrection. Also, love the Lion King bit. "It's just
    creepy."
  • Mr. Easterband
That was probably the most alarming opening credits of any movie.

    Warner Bros Kids
    Nintendo
    4Kids

With my current knowledge about these I would have walked out of the theatre
instatly... too bad I wasn't that wise when I saw the movie. Oh why! Why did
they ever create this? And I who liked the Gameboy game and all.
  • xH1Mx
I used to love Pokemon as a kid and saw that movie the first day it was on in
theaters. (I was about 3 at the time and was easily amused) Now I noticed how
stupid i was back then. I can't believe i got caught in the hype. Parents and
teachers were annoyed by it too! In elementary there we "no pokemon
    allowed" rules.

This is one of many successful yet stupid anime shows out there. the only one
that can be made an exception is dragon ball z. Every guy my age watched that
    show when they were younger.
  • xH1Mx
correction. most guys who were 6-30 watched dragon ball z. it was one of the top
10 violent children shows at the time. (before happy tree friends and
    metalocaylpse)
  • Rhoey
As a kid, I used to love this movie, but I have to admit that the plot has
always been confusing and I wondered if it's just me - or it really makes no
    sense?
The second movie was better anyway.

I agree with you; the moral makes no sense at all. And it was lame to kill off
Ash only to bring him back a few moments later. It makes it entire pointless.

    Thanks for the entertaining review.
  • M. Mori
Upon reflecting on what you said... yes, it's true that the makers of this movie
blatantly catered only to the fans of the show. God help the parents that took
them to see this movie; they must have been completely confused from watching
    this film.
  • thepunisher124
i'd like to see him review the second power ranger movie, hitman, batman&robin, and
    the new ninja turtle movie
  • AVPGuyver21
This video was hilarious and the part when all the pokemon was crying was funny
    as hell :D
