Man, I remember seeing this as a kid. Huge disappointment how little time was actually spent on the games. I really don't get why they're so upset that the final competition is a new game; it's not like Lucas or the glasses chick have played it before either. Are Jimmy's skills based entirely on playing the games so much that he's just memorized them?

I loved this movie! I watched it every day as a kid on cassette (ok, almost every day). But basically, yeah, it was bad... You did scare the crap out of me at the end, I really thought that the AVGN was Jimmy... O.O

I've only saw this movie once, and I think I was eleven at the time. Even at an age like eleven I could tell when I was watching a messed up, piece of shit of a movie. It was just so awkward and annoying to even look at.
Another little tidbit: during the scene where the girl marvels that Jimmy's played Ninja Gaiden for so long without getting hit, you can see that he actually has been: two life bars are missing.

Ah, I remember this classic movie quite well. We used to sit around the TV and munch on popcorn, hoping to catch a fleeting glimpse of SECRET GAMING HINTS in the movie - and by Gum, there were plenty. It's really quite impressive what a great advertisement this movie was - it was like a fine wine, mixed liberally with delicious (and nutritious) mud.

One of your best reviews. I started to watch this from Comcast On Demand and the first 10 minutes bored me to hell so I didn't bother to watch the rest. Now I'm grateful I missed the father-on-son action and old guy in the speedo. I really dodged a bullet there.

I never saw The Wizard. I went to PAX last year, and at night you could go to the Amphitheater there and watch different videogame movies. They had this, and I considered watching it because I had heard a lot about it...but then I found out they also had Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and took a mental shit on the idea of watching The Wizard.
Even having never seen it, I thoroughly enjoyed the review.

This was bad, (The movie, not the review mind you) but Fred Savage's OTHER magnum opus of the same year by the name of "Little Monsters" was as equally tragically awful (Perhaps more so since he shared starring billing with Howie "Deal or No Deal" Mandel). One of these years, NC should a piece on "LM" just to balance things out.
