Hello all! This may be a little long, so bear with me, and please excuse any typos or grammatical issues; it's 2:30 AM.
I guess this update will be my first formal introduction to all of you loyal viewers. I pretty much have been taking care of the site work since the first version of it in late December, and have generally used the moniker of admin. I guess it's time to just use my real name now because in the future you are going to be hearing a lot more from me and the ThatGuy team. As of now our focus is to continue to put a lot of time in effort into this site thus allowing it to not only become a favorite destination for you the current viewers, but also to continue to gain new viewers. In the coming months a couple of new shows will be added to the lineup; ones that hopefully will make all of you feel more involved with the site.
The first show will be the simply called, Rant of the Week. This shows premise will be simple. When the forums go up their will be an area for all of you to rant about something, whether it be your day, some random issue you have going on, or what ever. Everyone in the forum will have the ability to pick with rant they believe to not only be the best written, but also the most entertaining. That winning rant will then be read by ThatGuy.
The next show will be called, Ask ThatGuy a Question. This show will basically take a pool of questions that have been asked through email and the forums, and will feature ThatGuy responding to them. Now I know what your thinking.. That's like Ask A Ninja! Yes, the premise will be the same, but we hope to offer something different, but as of now, Doug is still deciding on the format, and editing style that we will use on this.
The final show probably wont appear to at least September, but it should be something that you all enjoy. We plan on doing a live Nostalgia Critic game show. Basically at this time we will have set up Webcam chat rooms, and on a select night this show will go live. 3 users in the chat room will be drawn at random, and be put on the show. ThatGuy will ask various Nostalgic questions, in a Jeopardic style, and the winner will receive something along the lines of a free premium membership upgrade, free t-shirts, or whatever promotion items we are given. As this show is going on, everyone in the chat room will be able to watch, and contribute during some random segments.
Now, I'm just going to do a quick blurb on the donations. To all of those who have already, we once again thank you! In about 2 weeks time, you will see a new menu pop up on the site, that only you the donaters will have access to. In this section you will be able to download all the videos on this site in both MPG and IPOD formats. You will also have access to special content like, bloopers, extended scenes, commentaries and more. A special area in the forum will also be a available to you, an area that will have some priority replies from ThatGuy and the other staff members.
If you choose to donate after the forums go up (within the next 2 weeks), you will lose the access to downloading the 5 second movies, but will have access to everything else. Now if you don't donate, don't worry, the site will still be the same, and you'll be able to watch every video that would normally be on the site. The donations are paying the server costs, and as we grow the server costs are going to get much much larger. Since this site reopened in late April, we have grown far beyond our expectations! If you ever check out Alexa, you'll see our rise, and it's amazing! Once again, we thank you all!
ThatGuy T-shirts and other items will be available to purchase shortly. Initially, it will be handled through Cafepress, but after a short month or two trial period, (so we can gage the level of interest) we will then go to a local shop to handle all the orders.
Now, I'm almost done; this is the last paragraph, I promise! If you were on this site back in December, you may have noticed a small image on the site that stated, "Something Awesome is Coming," and something awesome is coming. ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com is the first site under our belt, and it's allowing us to try out a lot of ideas (some that you have seen, and some that haven't appeared yet.) As time goes on, you be hearing much more about this 'Awesome" thing that will be happening. Right now all that we can tell you is that, it's in the final stages of conceptualization. Over the summer months, we hope to have a lot of the paperwork, writing, and filming complete for a bunch of new shows. Some that will have ThatGuy, and others that you may see on this site in it, and some that won't. For now, I'll leave you with some of the ideas that will launch this, 'Awesome' site.
Roaring News: Imagine a set that looks like it would be found in a 1920's new radio broadcast room. Imagine what the atmosphere and anchors would look like. Imagine if they still thought they were in the 1920's. Now have these anchors talk about current event news. Could they understand what they are reading? Would they freak out due to modern technology. Would today's world shock them? ThatGuy will be one of the anchors on this one.
White Trash Hunter: Take one part Reno 911, and one part Crocodile Hunter and mix. This show will focus on a team of 4 that travels around trailer parks, forest preserves, and small rural towns in search of the bane of society; the White Trash.
Awesome Paranormal: Plain and simple, it's a ghost hunter style show.
Blistered Thumbs: A panel of four will review games (2 current gen, 1 past gen), each episode. Yes we know that there are countless reviewers for video game out there, but we will try and make this one stand out, like the way Yahtzee did for his.
Inanimate Boxing: ThatGuy will battle against objects like couches, giant workout balls, etc. Can he win every match?
Now about the promise a paragraph above; I guess I lied. This is the last paragraph for sure though! On a weekly basis we will give more details on this, "Awesome" site, and hopefully over the course of the next few months more show ideas will be posted here. As we stand now, there are over 70 ideas that have been fleshed out, and some have started filming. Just stay tuned, and please comment below!
