Your only and still favorite admin here,

This update will not only have the details of a couple of contests that we will be running in it, but also a lot of other site updates so sit back and take this in.

Revver:

-I am still looking into getting some of the issues solved.  A kind person in the comments area suggested that you enable pop-ups if the video player isn't showing at all.  Some other potential issues that could cause the player not to show include: older java, older flash, noscript or adblock turned on, or having javascript disabled.  So try updated your Flash and Java and see if that fixes the issue.  Or try the solution above.  If that doesn't work, rest assured that I am still working on figuring out the problem and getting you a solution.  (It seems only a very small percent of you are having problems though)
-Once again, we moved the videos to Revver in order to cut $1400 a month off our server costs.  Also since we get money from the videos there, we will now be able to give Doug/Rob a nice chunk of money a month.  This will allow them to spend some more time creating new videos, and other fun stuff.

New Feature: Chat Room!

The link to the chat room is under the User Menu, and also under the Who's Online area.  Check it out today! 
-Known Chat Room Issues:  The NoFloodBot is kicking people who type to much,  hopefully I'll have that fixed by Saturday, along with adding some new emoticons.

Criticism in Comments:

People if your going to criticize someone please do it in an intelligent way!  Don't leave post like You Suck or Die or whatever.  Point out your issues in a constructive way... please!  We all like comments; good or bad, but if it is a bad comment, please tell us why you have a problem with someone or something, so we can try and fix it.   Also don't downvote people who provide that good type of constructive criticism.   Curiosity Inc comes to mind, as a lot of his posts contain good constructive criticism.  Downvote the people who say the you suck type of stuff though!

Contest #1:

This one is simple.. actually very simple.  If you have a registered account on this site (ie you login), you are already entered.  If not make a damn account already you lurkers! :)    I have 3 autographed items from Doug to give away to 3 random registered users.

Contest #2:

Do you all see that empty space below the articles logo on the front page?  Well a new image and section will be there soon!  What is this section?  Well it's going to be an area that will showcase the best of the blogs. (BOB for short, yeah I got rid of the, the).  This new area will showcase the best videos and articles in the blogs.  The Videos must be your own and be in a review/show manner. 

How do I get into the BOB?   Simple, we the staff will pick who deserves to be in there, and at the end of each month the Best Article Writer and the Best Video Guy or Girl (voted on by you the users), will become a full fledged staff member on this site and have their content featured like Film Brain/Suede and Benzie.  Simple huh?  So get to writing or filming, and make sure your work is of high quality!

Contest #3:

It's a secret, that will be revealed shortly.

Random Notes:

-I plan on updating the Fan Section with new images, along with adding a video area shortly. 
-The Fan Upload Area will have a software update soon, hopefully this will fix some problems that we were having. (Only registered users can see The Fan Upload Area)

-Once again we would like to thank all of you are dear viewers.  Our growth rate has been nothing short of amazing,  Since the beginning of May our Monthly Unique and Total Visitors has doubled each and every month!  Our Blog area has become a great source of entertainment, and the Fan Work is just amazing!  Once again, you guys and girls are our source of motivation.  Thanks to all of you once again!

the revver thing is strange, i tried this site on both my laptop and my desktop, both using firefox and IE and my desktop is ancient. they both worked...

I never had a problem with Revver on any of my systems, nor have I used any systems that have issues with it.

Anyways... I'm experiencing this problem with other Revver-videos on other sites as well, not just the TGWTG-videos. I'll keep looking into it as well and if I find something useful, I'll report it here.

Nope, it's not Vista. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 here.

I've played Revver movies here with Vista, XP, and various flavors of Linux and haven't had any trouble under any of them.

yes i was finally able to get revver to work. just enable popups. this is the best. I'll go here for the rest of my liiife

hmm, im not exactly computer minded... firewall maybe? stopping certain incoming data? there was a system like that on our school computers which jammed videos, you could get to the page, but nothing would happen. but thats a pretty technical area i know next to nothing about

I've tried enabling pop-ups too, but still no dice. The videos just don't appear at all.

I'm not tech-savvy enough to understand why this would happen, it's kinda baffling. Revver videos work fine for me on other sites, but it's only here that they're totally MIA. I have the latest version of Firefox, the latest version of Java, and the latest version of Flash, and on Noscript I've allowed every script that's on the site. In fact, I've only gotten Noscript recently, so that's not part of the problem for me, since I was having this trouble before getting it.

a guide to fixxed the rever videos


1. use firefox becuase it works alot easier

2. dont use the download manager "Down Them All" it seems to mess with revers videos

3. dont use adblock for some reason it thinks rever is a flash add and blocks it hence the name adblock lol

4. have fun and watch all the videos

i have never had any problems with revver. i dont know if its my set up or not but if it will potentially help others ill give the rundown

A Revver problem

I addressed a Revver problem where the vids won't show by uninstalling Adblock, and putting Adblock Plus in its place in Firefox 3.

Whomever suggested enabling the pop-ups on this website must be some kind of genius. I never thought it would really make a difference. I mean, why would it? Pop-Ups = Revver hosted videos?

I don't see the logic in that. But I went and disabled my Adblock program, restarted Firefox, and it didn't work. Needless to say, I tried getting rid of Adblock all together. Restarted Firefox and voila! The videos now work and my problem that I have had since the swap to revver are resolved.

So... that you anonymous member, I owe you many thanks

How to fix Revver and other flash issues in Fire Fox.....

Ok, some time ago Adobe did some updates to flash and never fully resolved issues for flash outside of the Internet Explorer version.

Below is a legacy version of flash that WILL make Revver still work.

Basicly, only people outside of IE7 are having the flash issues.

I had the same issues a few months ago and hunted all over the place to fix it.

In regards to contest #2, I think it's an excellent idea, hopefully encouraging people to put more effort into their blogs and thus increase the overall quality. I'm just slightly depressed knowing that with what I do with my blogging powers (specifically, fan-submitted top 10 lists) it will be impossible for me to ever attain super-stardom.

Yet despite this obstacle, I have to say I really enjoy doing it. Every week the results surprise me, and every week I get more people to participate (not just on this site, but on all the others as well), and it's just become amazingly fun.

Honestly, I hope everyone that posts their opinions in digital ink is doing so because they truly care, and not because it seemed like a good idea at the time or because they have nothing better to do. After all, that's what forums are for, not blogs.

Oh yeah, and good luck with the company, I hope everything goes well on your end.

Fan Work Problem?

I'm having trouble uploading my fan work. I've filled in all the boxes there and I'm sure I've done every thing correctly, but when it is done amessage tells me - 'File not specified' and then i have to start all over again. I've tried it 3 times now and it is still not working. What can I do?
