Yeah, I agree with you that it doesn't even feel like they're trying anymore. It seems like their mentality is "Ok, we have to write an episode. But since its The Simpsons, no one's gonna say anything if it's bad because the show's so popular and the fans will tear them apart. Lets just write something quick and get it over with."
Personally, I think it would've been best if the show ended at Season 10 and the movie was made then. They would've gone out on a high note, instead of going on to make the craptacular episodes they make now.
